GERMANY, Frankfurt am Main. Innovations in packaging materials can be seen at this year’s edition of IFFA, the leading trade fair for the meat and alternative protein industry.
Food packaging, especially for perishable products made from meat or alternative proteins, must meet various requirements. Product protection and shelf life are paramount, while consumer preferences have also increased the demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging. Newly developed packaging solutions are therefore aimed at being resource-efficient, recyclable and made from renewable materials.
One trend featured at this year’s exhibition will be smart packaging, which actively protects the product while having a sustainable effect. Smart or "intelligent" packaging protects against light, regulates moisture, keeps the temperature stable, absorbs unwanted ripening gases and prevents germs - to name just a few applications.
IFFA: The latest generation of packaging machinery
The development of innovative sustainable packaging materials along with the related technology and machinery for packaging food go hand in hand.
