ICELAND, Garðabær. As part of the initiative "Nordic CEOs for a sustainable future", the CEO of Marel – a manufacturer of food processing equipment for the meat processing industry – declared his goal to accelerate gender equality and inclusion in the workspace.

At the beginning of February, Arni Oddur Thordarson and the remaining 12 Nordic CEOs announced the joint publication of a guide promoting workplace diversity and inclusion.

Besides providing an easily-adoptable action plan, the guide includes a call to action to the governments in the Nordic Region.

Recognizing the necessity of a renewed effort to meet the targets set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly No. 5 on gender equality, the Nordic CEOs declared their shared ambition to accelerate progress on a range of issues related to diversity and inclusion.

In the guide "From balancing gender to driving inclusion", the CEOs outline the importance of addressing the gender gap as part of the issues on diversity and inclusion. The CEOs are hopeful that their shared commitment along with the guide will inspire others to work on diversity and inclusion in their own organizations.

The CEO initiative also called on the Nordic governments to drive further progress on diversity and inclusion in the Nordic region with a renewed emphasis on gender equality and women's empowerment through government initiatives and incentives. Their declared goal is to reach a state where all citizens are equals.
