For the first time Weber Maschinenbau invited to a Supplier Day in Breidenbach, Germany, in order to exchange ideas with its top-selling suppliers on digital transformation in purchasing.

Big data, blockchain or cloud computing: these terms have become an indispensable part of everyday working life. Behind this is the so-called digital transformation, which means significant changes in the organizational structure of a company and its employees' work. But above all, digital transformation offers the opportunity to work together more efficiently.

"This day is intended to give impulses to how purchasing and suppliers can work even more closely and efficiently together in the future and successfully master the path to digital transformation. We are therefore very pleased that our idea of the Supplier Day was so well received", Severin Geitz, Purchasing Manager at Weber in Breidenbach, is pleased about the numerous participants.

CEO Tobias Weber opened the event with an overview of the industry and current market developments. His presentation focused on disruption, i.e. the replacement of traditional business models or markets by innovations in the wake of the upheaval in the digital economy.

Disruption is a common vocabulary, especially among start-ups. Stephan Chassaing de Bourdeille is also familiar with start-ups. The digital expert gave a detailed insight into the business world of Silicon Valley and the significance of digital transformation for the relationship between purchasing and suppliers. "Purchasing has to look for other fields where it can offer added value in the future," explained Chassaing de Bourdeille. The reason for this is that in times of AI it is not only about cost savings, since computers can also negotiate prices and there is a high level of price transparency. Rather, the expert is concerned with cultivating relations between the two parties: finding the right partner and working together on the basis of mutual trust.

During a tour of the company premises, the Weber Buyer Team showed the visitors in which areas Weber's digital transformation has already found its way. The presentation of the digital twin in particular met with great interest, as suppliers had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the 3D model of a slicer with the help of VR and AR glasses.

Round table sessions rounded off the programme: digital document handover, paperless order processing and the potential of a closer partnership were among the topics discussed in small groups.

At the end of the day, visitors and organizers were equally enthusiastic. "In addition to the many informative pieces of information about the upcoming changes in the near future, I would like to thank you for the very good organisation, the perfect service and the pleasant atmosphere. A very varied day confirmed our opinion: Together we are strong and we will master the upcoming tasks together", was the feedback of one participant.

This will certainly not have been the last supplier day at Weber Maschinenbau.
