The Ukraine will import about 100,000 tons of pork in 2011, the National Radio Company of Ukraine announced on its website.
According to preliminary calculations of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food, Volodymyr Ladyka, Ukraine was planning within 2-3 years to fully refuse from the import of meat, especially pork and lard.
Ladyka added, the the agriculture ministry calculates the balance of production and the country's needs in meat. There was yet no accurate forecast of the import of cattle meat and chicken. In 2010 Ukraine imported 102,000 tons of fresh frozen pork.
