The world fastest growing market for US-beef is Russia, so says Allan Mustard, the former agricultural attaché to Russia for the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service.
The Russian market for beef was opened again in 2006 after a three years BSE ban was lifted. The reopening was a result of Russia’s ascension into the World Trade Organisation. According to Mustard, Russia is set to purchase around $50-60 million in 2008 and estimates purchases of more than $100 million in 2009.
Mr Mustard says that beef liver for production of sausage is the largest segment of exports to Russia, but demand is expanding for other cuts as well.
