Top 150 companies in the German meat industry

FRANKFURT List headed by 7 sales billionaires

The trend towards consolidation observed in the German meat and meat-products industry is continuing. This is evident from the latest edition of the most comprehensive list of the top-ranking companies in the German meat sector, published exclusively in 'afz-journal' for the first time last year.

The list is once again headed by the major butchery and cutting companies. The transitions between butchery and processing, or between producers, retailers and major butchery retail chains are becoming increasingly blurred. Acquisitions have added a seventh company to the six euro-billionaires featured in last year's sales ranking list; these are followed by 67 further companies with a turnover of EUR 100 million or more.

Heading the national rankings, with sales of EUR 2.5 billion is, as last year, the Tönnies-Group. The other butchery and cutting companies which posted sales of over a billion euros in 2005 were Moksel, NFZ, Westfleisch, the PHW Group (Wiesenhof) and Südfleisch. Heristo AG (Stockmeyer) has now moved up into sixth position in the sales billionaires list, not least thanks to its acquisition of the Paulsen Group. The zur-Mühlen Group has also joined the list for the first time with its corroborated figures. This means that, this year, a "pure" meat products manufacturer has entered the Top 10 for the first time.
