This year's LZ rankings cover 100 manufacturers of foods and consumer goods, so-called Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs). The rankings are based on overall sales figures published by 30 June 2006. Besides 32 American companies, the Top 100 list includes 13 British, 12 Japanese, 8 German, 6 French and 4 Dutch companies. Just under half of all companies come from Europe. Featuring strongly in the list are drinks manufacturers, most of which are to be found in the top third of the table. 17 manufacturers in the list produce or distribute dairy products.
