The Office of the United States Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a brief statement regarding Taiwan's announcement on the import of American beef.

After over two years of extensive negotiations and scientific and technical exchanges, the United States had been looking forward to an announcement from Taiwan authorities that Taiwan would fully open its market to American beef and beef products on the basis of the bilateral protocol we had negotiated, Carol Guthrie, Assistant United States Trade Representative for Public Affairs, and Chris Mather, USDA Director of Communications, announced. The Protocol that Taiwan had promulgated was science-based and followed the guidelines of World Organization of Animal Health (OIE) as well as the findings of Taiwan's own risk assessment on the safety of U.S. beef.
