The Central Organisation for the Meat Industry (COV) calls on all large and medium-sized slaughterhouses to test their staff for the coronavirus.

"The results of the tests among employees of some Dutch meat companies showed an unexpectedly high percentage of infected employees. In order to be ahead of any further contamination and to be able to continue to offer employees in these companies a safe workplace, this now needs to be done quickly. We call on the government and GGD to help bring this about in the short term", says General Secretary Richard van der Kruijk.

The Dutch meat sector is a vital industry. From the outset, employees in this industry have continued to work on location in order to fulfil their social role in the food supply as well as possible in the frontline of the coronavirus. Recent figures from the Municipal Health Service (GGD) show that staff in slaughterhouses are also affected by the virus.
