Senate Committee approves USDA nominations

The Senate Agriculture Committee unanimously approved the nominations of Elisabeth Hagen, M.D., to the position of United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Under Secretary for Food Safety, and Catherine Woteki, Ph.D., to the position of USDA’s Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics.

Hagen works for USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service since 2006, most recently as USDA's chief medical officer. President Barack Obama nominated Hagen to the post in January. Four months later the committee held a hearing on her nomination, but did not vote.

The next step in the nominating process is for these appointees to be considered by the full Senate for confirmation.
