S. Korean president to ban U.S. beef again

On the occasion of a special press conference South Korean President promised to limit U.S. beef imports to animals under 30 months.

He apologised for his April decision to resume imports of U.S. beef from cattle of all ages.

President Lee Myung-bak also said that he made S. Korea’s position crystal clear to U.S. President George W. Bush on 7 June 2008. Despite, trade delegations representing both countries are now engaged in negotiations although no conclusion has yet been reached.

According to the S. Korean President his country will not be able to resume U.S. beef imports, if demands about restrictions on older cattle were not met.
