Russia wants to reduce poultry and pork imports

Only ten percent max of its poultry and pork consumption in the next three or four years will be imported.

According to an interview with chief executive Sergei Mikhailov of meat producer Cherkizovo, Russia plans to reach self-sufficience in poultry and pork by 2011. The growing Russian production of broiler meat has risen for the last four years about 15 to 16 percent a year, Mikhailov said. Also pork production has risen considerably.
