GERMANY, Neckarsulm. Kaufland will further reduce plastic waste and is currently developing a new innovative packaging for self-service meat. The packaging for minced meat will start with self-service, which requires 70% less plastic. This saves the company around 125 t of plastic per year on a minced meat product alone.
Instead of a plastic tray, the minced meat will in future be made from cardboard lined with a thin plastic foil. By separating the cardboard from the film, the individual recyclable materials in the packaging can be recycled separately. A notice on the packaging tells the customer how to separate the components in order to recycle them optimally. With its packaging for minced meat, Kaufland is setting new standards in the field of self-service meat.
