GERMANY, Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The company is well prepared for the current Corona pandemic. The food supply of meat and sausage is currently guaranteed.
"We are fully capable of supplying the entire food chain, from farmers to retailers," says Clemens Tönnies, managing partner of Tönnies Holding. "We can proudly say throughout the chain: We supply Germany with meat and sausage."
It has become clear once again how important food production is in one's own country, Tönnies explained. People in Germany stock up on meat and sausages. Maximilian Tönnies, Managing Director of the zur Mühlen Group, describes the market situation: "We want to meet the increased demand with great diligence as a service provider to society. I would like to thank all those involved in the food chain: farmers, slaughter, processing, trade and all our own employees.”
The family-owned company began preparing itself a few weeks ago - among other things by setting up a pandemic staff unit. In connection with this, preparations were made at the production sites to ensure the food supply. As a food producer, Tönnies is systemically relevant for the meat supply due to its market significance.
"The health of the population has top priority", is how Managing Director Andres Ruff describes the company's motivation. "We make our contribution to slowing down the spread of corona among our employees and their families." At the same time, Ruff emphasizes the high responsibility for our employees. "Many employees are currently working overtime to meet our pension obligations."
At the same time, the company has worked with the cities and municipalities at several locations to create solutions for emergency groups in childcare. In addition, numerous preventive measures have been implemented in the companies for several weeks, including an information campaign and clustering of employees. The company operates its own internal hotline and provides regular information about the company networks in the respective national languages.
At the same time, the marketing of whole animals has been stagnating for several weeks. Due to international uncertainty, especially in transport logistics, the company is experiencing weakened export demand. As a result, the pig carcass cannot be optimally utilised and marketed.
