USPoultry and the USPoultry Foundation announced the completion of a funded research project at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., that evaluated a new vaccine to protect again two important diseases.

The research project, led by Dr. Isabel Gimeno and Dr. James Guy at North Carolina State University, evaluated a new vaccine candidate which could be valuable for protecting chickens against both Marek’s disease and infectious laryngotracheitis. The new recombinant vaccine is a Marek’s disease virus into which genes of infectious laryngotracheitis virus have been inserted. The new vaccine shows potential advantages over existing vaccines. The results open a new avenue in the development of recombinant vaccines for use in poultry.
