The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued Notice 52-09: Ante-Mortem Verification of Livestock Offered for Slaughter by the Establishment.

This notice, to be implemented August 16, provides inspection programme personnel (IPP) with instructions on how to verify and reconcile the number of animals presented for ante-mortem inspection with the number of animals passed for slaughter and then slaughtered.

The notice also details IPP procedures for performing ante-mortem inspections, determining that livestock at an establishment have received ante-mortem inspections and record-keeping for ante-mortem inspections.
