SPAIN, Calamocha. Tönnies wants to build a fully automated slaughterhouse in Calamocha. The company could become one of the largest employers in the province.

According to Spanish media, Tönnies is planning a new pork processing plant in Calamocha (Aragon), a town 100 km south of Zaragoza. According to the newspaper "Heraldo", the site with its 1000 planned jobs could become one of the largest employers in the province.

According to the report, the investments amounted to € 75 mill. for the construction, which would last until 2024. The plant is to be operated automatically.  625 pigs could be processed there per hour. In addition, there will be a barn with space for 1,000 pigs, where the animals can rest from transport. The site will cover 300,000 square meters and also provide space for the production of convenience products. (nis/dl)
