The president of Interporc stated that "this is a great challenge for everyone, and all pig companies are implementing contingency plans to protect their workers, prevent risk situations by following the guidelines recommended by the health authorities and maintain activity in all links of the production chain".
He recalled the strategic importance of the pig sector in Spain, as it accounts for 39% of the final livestock production and 9.5% of industrial production in our country. The sector has 86,000 farms and more than 2,000 industries that produce more than 4.6 mill. t of meat and processed products.
Garcia has stressed that "Spanish pork products are those in greatest demand in the meat segment among Spanish consumers and form part of the regular family diet" and for this reason it is essential to maintain activity and supply retailers and large-scale distribution.
