The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of D&S Fleisch of Germany by Danish Crown of Denmark. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
Danish Crown is a cooperative slaughterhouse company active in the slaughtering of pigs and cattle, meat processing and meat trading. D&S Fleisch is a slaughterhouse company active in the pig meat segment. D&S is the fourth largest slaughterhouse company for pigs in Germany with 3.45 million slaughtered animals and approximately 1,000 employees.
The new Danish owner plans to extend the headquarters of D&S Fleisch in Essen, which lies adjacent to a Danish Crown facility in Oldenburg. Part of the acquisition is also the D&S-location in Cappeln, in contrast to their subsidiary convenience-company “Fleisch Krone Feinkost GmbH”.
