Chile has suspended beef exports to the EU while it investigates supply chain weaknesses identified by a European veterinary mission.
The European Commission's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) identified a number of shortcomings related to controls on beef farms that supply exporters to the EU during a visit to Chile in late February.
As a result Chilean authorities decided to suspend exports until appropriate corrective measures have been introduced.
The suspension only applies to exports of fresh beef from 27 March. Exports of other beef products, and fresh beef certified prior to 27 March, will be permitted.
