BRAZIL, Rio de Janeiro. Agribusiness exports reached a nominal record of $101.69 bn. in 2018, up 5.9% from $96.01 bn. exported in 2017. The previous annual record occurred in 2013, when the country exported $99.93 bn. in products from the sector.
According to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), sales to China explain the behavior of the agricultural balance. Exports to the country increased $9 bn. The figure exceeds the $5.67 bn. increase registered in the foreign food market as a whole.
Agribusiness accounted for 42.4% of total Brazilian foreign sales in the year. Imports of agribusiness recorded a decrease of 0.8%, totaling $14 bn. As a result, the trade balance of the sector was $87.6 bn. (+7.1%).
