According to the Brazilian Meat Monitor, Brazilian beef exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are forecast to double in value this year.

According to projections by the Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (ABIEC), the value of exports will increase to $70 million this year, up from $35.5 million in 2006.

According to ABIEC, sales should be boosted by the participation of 11 Brazilian exporters at the ‘Gulfood’ trade fair, which took place in Dubai this month. Brazil considers the UAE to be a growing market and is investing in events such as ‘Gulfood’ to promote Brazil’s exports.

Australian exporters also participated in the trade fair.

Other factors favouring Brazilian beef sales in the Middle East include Brazil’s experience in halal slaughter and the low cost of Brazilian beef when compared to major competitors such as Australia.

Brazil is already the largest beef supplier to the UAE, with the value of shipments in 2006 jumping 74% compared to the previous year.
