Brasil Foods SA has acquired, through its subsidiary in Argentina, corporate control of Rio Cuarto, Cordoba-based Avex SA, a major producer of whole, cut, chilled and frozen chicken.
In 2010, Avex reported revenues of US$66.8 mill., with 70% of its sales in the domestic market. Sales amounted to 41,500 t produced; 494 employees work at the company. Avex is the sixth-largest player in the domestic poultry market, with a market share of 4% in Argentina. Avex has the capacity to slaughter 750,000 head of chicken per week.
Brasil Foods operates in the Argentinean market and exports processed and fresh products, mostly under the Sadia brand, to distributors in the Buenos Aires region.
