In order to meet the new challenges of the meat market more efficiently, Belgiam meat companies Viangros and Covalis have decided to form an alliance from the 1st January 2011. The purpose of this alliance is to integrate the entire beef and pork chain.

Indeed, with the complete management of the chain, both groups will be able to react better to the needs of the food service and retail sectors with regard to traceability, inspection, new convenience products and new trends in the meat sector. This new Belgian joint venture, integrating the entire beef and pork chain will bear the name “Vivanda”.

Viangros will take a minority participation in the Covalis group; Covalis, in turn, will acquire a minority participation in Viangros. Each group will be represented in both executive boards.

In addition to the mutual participations, Viangros will acquire Carniportion, a subsidiary of Covalis specialised in consumer packaging, while Adriaens, a beef slaughterhouse and subsidiary of Covalis, will take over the slaughtering and wholesale activities for beef from Viangros.
