According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) in recent weeks, U.S. beef exports have been bolstered by a sharp increase in sales in Russia.
Current sales data show beef exports to Russia at levels not seen since mid-2008, a year in which exports to Russia reached a record $95.3 million. USMEF Senior Vice President Thad Lively thinks that the strong Russian currency and the strengthened economy worked to the advantage of U.S. exports. Especially the increase in muscle cut demands made a big difference. Lively considers it possible that exports in this year might rise up to the level of 2008.
