GERMANY, Frankfurt am Main. For the eighth time in succession “afz - allgemeine fleischer zeitung” and "FLEISCHWIRTSCHAFT" are honouring particularly motivated talents.

This year, the Sponsorship Award 2020 (Förderpreis der Fleischwirtschaft 2020) will go to Baden-Württemberg twice. The prize winners are Alfred Remmele Conde and Jan Schemmer.

The aim of this initiative is to identify, promote and retain top young talents in the industry. The award winners reflect the professional opportunities and career paths in the meat industry and show how extraordinarily varied and attractive professions in this sector of the food industry and their companies as employers are.

Three years ago, Alfred Remmele Conde came to Germany alone at the age of 18 with the clear goal of becoming a butcher and joining the best. Born in Guatemala City, he had just graduated from the German school there. The German-Guatemalan found his ideal training company in the Häfele butcher's shop, which is based in Winnenden. Alfred Remmele Conde passed the final apprenticeship examination, in which he was also involved as an ambassador for training, in a shortened time with excellent results.

Alfred Remmele Conde has butchery in his blood. In the fifth generation, father Alfred runs a butcher's shop in Guatemala City, which his grandparents, who emigrated in 1959, founded near Koblenz.

At the age of 32, Jan Schemmer has already made great strides in his career. In 2013, directly after graduating as a meat technician, he joined Bell Schweiz AG as a product developer. Two years ago he was promoted there to head of the Product Management / Sales Promotion department. This leaves the trained butcher with little time to practise his actual trade.

This makes the young manager all the more passionate that he has been working part-time as a self-employed butcher for the Lörrach State Forest for the past five years, cutting up the game for the surrounding hunting grounds and processing it into game meat after work. Schemmer is also a lecturer at a hunting school.
