The American Meat Institute (AMI) is urging for the quick passage of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Korea and a Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) with Colombia, in separate letters to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).

AMI President and CEO Patrick Boyle stated that AMI supported quick passage of the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement. As the United States' 10th largest trading partner worldwide in agricultural and livestock products, Colombia was an important market for U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports.

In regards to the proposed agreement with Korea, Boyle sayed that AMI supported passage and implementation of the FTA at the earliest opportunity. The U.S. beef and pork industries stould to receive significant benefits from the phased elimination of import duties on their products by the Republic of Korea.
