AMI Expo features sessions on sustainable production

C. The AMI Meat, Poultry & Seafood Industry Convention and Exposition, April 13-16, 2011, at McCormick Place, Chicago, Ill., will feature a track of focused education sessions as well as a pavilion on the show floor that will include demonstrations and supplier presentations.

Scheduled sustainability education sessions include:
Implementing Sustainability Plans in Small and Medium Plants on Wednesday, April 13, 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m.
Processors will share their personal experiences during development and implementation of their successful sustainability programs during this “how to” session. Attendees will receive information on defining sustainability, developing metrics, tracking progress and securing management buy-in, all key steps to sustainability programs.

Managing Waste Streams: Focus on Packaging on Thursday, April 14, 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m.
What has the industry done to identify and quantify packaging waste streams? How do you put forth the actions necessary to take packaging sustainability to a new level? During this session, attendees will learn about the latest initiatives implemented by meat and poultry processors, packaging suppliers and retailers, as they discuss examples of packaging types and technologies adopted to minimize packaging waste streams.

Sustainability: Communicating with Your Stakeholders on Friday, April 15, 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m.
How is the meat and poultry industry responding to consumer demand for more sustainable products? During this session, stakeholders from across the supply chain will explain why sustainability is a challenge that requires industry-wide collaboration. Each panelist will describe ways to assess environmental impact, identify opportunities for improvement and work across the supply chain.
