8th European Meat Forum in Brussels

The 8th European Meat Forum in Brussels, organised by the International Butchers' Confederation at the European Parliament, focused on the role of meat in the prevention of obesity.

Although frequently and quickly made the scapegoat, it is important that animal-based foods should not be automatically demonised. This foretaste of the White Book on nutrition and exercise planned for next year was given by EU Commission representative Dr. Ceri Thompson. On the contrary, at the EU level there is agreement that the best way to combat and prevent obesity is to adopt a broad-based approach and to promote social change.

The IBC General Secretary Martin Fuchs and the DFV Vice President Georg Kleeblatt warned against political sloganeering.
