UK poultry on the rise

The latest national statistics produced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the activity of UK hatcheries and poultry slaughterhouses and other related poultry statistics were released on 29 November 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The key points of the release are UK hatcheries data, UK poultry slaughter, and UK poultry meat production. The key results for October 2012 are given below:
  • UK broiler chick placings were 3.1% higher than October 2011 at 90 mill. birds and UK turkey placings were 6.0% higher than October 2011 at 1.3 mill. birds.
  • UK broiler slaughterings were 2.5% higher than October 2011 at 86 mill. birds. UK turkey slaughterings were 8.4% higher than October 2011 at 2.4 mill. birds.
  • UK poultry meat production was 163,000 t, the same as October 2011.
