Representatives of the Belgian Boerenbond (farmers' union), the Algemeen Boeren Syndicaat (farmers' syndicate), Bemefa, Fevia, Febrex Fenavian and Comos (farmers' organisations) have signed an agreement with the objective of stopping castration in 2018.

The agreement came about in consultation with the Belgian animal rights organisation Gaia.

It also lists a number of bottlenecks which will have to be worked on in order to achieve the objective.

A pilot project will be started and the options for financial support will be examined in collaboration and consultation with the Belgian government, i.e. the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Important points of attention for the project's working party are boar management and boar taint detection.
